Svitolina remains the stronger name, but her second-serve numbers in Wuhan are modest: 12 of 27 points won in one match, 11 of 33 in the other. She has also let control slip against Samsonova, Kalinskaya and Noskova. Their Auckland meeting went to a deciding-set tie-break; a four-game gap is not the natural reading of that evidence.
