Nolan McLean is listed to start for the Mets. The rookie's issue is occasional first-inning command, but he has shown the ability to reset after a rough opening frame and keep his team in the game.
Padres Bring Volatility and a Travel Disadvantage
The Padres' offense was almost completely neutralized Saturday, producing one run on a first-inning double play and little after that. Now they have to wash off a rain-delayed Sunday and open a new series the next night.
Walker Buehler is listed to start for the Padres. His 2026 has been volatile, and his blunt assessment after one poor July start was: "Didn't look good, feel good, taste good," per mlb.com.
Buehler's elbow has been pain-free, but the question is whether he can establish fastball and cutter strikes early. If he falls behind, the Mets can force him into predictable fastballs and build innings through walks and contact.

Citi Field Should Play True Without a Carry Wind

Buehler has the larger spread of outcomes, yet that volatility does not point cleanly to a high-run game. He has also produced efficient stretches, and if he finds early strikes, the innings can move quickly.
The home moneyline is thin, and asking a Mets lineup without Soto to sustain a full offensive night is a bigger ask than staying under this number. The travel, the park and the two listed starters line up better with the under.
The main risk is weather. If rain interrupts the starters early and forces both bullpens into extended work, the extra traffic could push this game over the total.
